The new headquarters of the Society of Swedish Literature in Finland (SLS) on Snellmaninkatu brings together language, literature, and art. From its windows, one looks out over the House of the Estates and the Bank of Finland – views that embody the centuries of history rooted in this corner of Kruununhaka. Founded 140 years ago, SLS is a scholarly society dedicated to promoting Swedish-language culture in Finland. It collects, researches, and shares knowledge of cultural heritage, supports research in literature and language, and administers the Swedish Cultural Foundation. The society’s facilities reflect this mission, offering today’s research community a peaceful environment for concentration, welcoming spaces for encounters, and the chance to participate in long-term cultural work. For nearly a decade, KOKO3 has overseen the phased renovation of the property. With the latest stage completed, all of SLS’s operations in Helsinki are now under one roof. The renovation connected two floors with an internal staircase, above which rises a distinctive crown of golden laurel leaves—a striking emblem of SLS’s identity.
