The popularity of vinyl records is on the rise. The enchantment with vinyl is based on both the sound and the vinyl record as an object. As a sound format, vinyl represents a type of stability that counterbalances streaming. Finland’s largest record store Levykauppa Äxä believes in this format. “I would estimate that the growth of vinyl sales in Finland is around 20-30%,” says Levykauppa Äxä CEO Jyri Lipponen.
“A vinyl pressing plant suits our vision of Konepaja as an urban center for culture and services. The project is also an active continuation of the area’s industrial history,” Henrik Hemmilä, COB for Vallilan Ratapiha.
Producing vinyl record molds requires plenty of energy. “Climate change concerns us, but carbon-neutral district cooling, biogas, and electricity are luckily available in Helsinki,” Pitkänen ponders.
